The Colorado Center for Nursing Excellence has been focused on incorporating diversity, equity and inclusion as a component in all of our training programs. Our work began in 2014 when we received a Nurse Workforce Diversity grant from HRSA. The Mentor Training Institute was a successful result of this program and continues today.
In 2015 The Center start to look inward at our own staff, policies and hiring practices to ensure we “walk the talk”. The worked continued with the development of Holistic Admissions to help build a diverse nurse pipeline in 2016.
As the demand for our diversity programs grew, The Center hired staff with expertise in developing diversity and inclusion training. The new team members have developed customizable programs including Bias Busters, Becoming Culturally Inclusive along with coaching and assessment tools.
Nursing Workforce Diversity (NWD) program increases opportunities for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, including racial and ethnic minorities underrepresented among registered nurses. NWD strengthens and expands the comprehensive use of evidence-based strategies shown to increase the recruitment, enrollment, retention, and graduation of students from disadvantaged backgrounds in schools of nursing.
