In addition to its ongoing work in convening nursing and healthcare workforce issues research, networking among education and practice leaders, and other broad-ranging activities, the Center also is involved in implementing several targeted initiatives.
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Initiative on the Future of Nursing
The Future of Nursing is a national initiative led by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), the AARP, and the Institute of Medicine. The Center’s first involvement with this national project was in 2008 when the Center led the process of recruiting a statewide leadership group and applying to be one of fifteen states invited to an RWJF sponsored national conference in Washington, D.C. focused on nursing education issues.
Since that time, Center leadership has been actively involved with this national effort to increase the ability of nurses to meet the challenges of the current and future health care needs of all Americans. Most recently, based on an extensive set of work over a two-year period, the Institute of Medicine released its ground-breaking report, “The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health”.
